Kahni’konriho is a Mohawk word which translates to “of a good mind” and refers to having balance in ones’ life. The inclusion of the medicine wheel in the logo is in keeping with this idea: the traditional perspective of Mohawk mental health is reflected in achieving a balance in ones’ spiritual, emotional, physical and intellectual (thinking) components.
I (Andrew Alkenbrack) have an undergraduate degree from York University and a Master of Arts in Counselling from Yorkville University. I have worked in the mental health field for over 18 years in various settings from private practice to Hospital mental health programs in the Belleville and Quinte area..
I have training in Solution Focus Brief Therapy, as well as in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). CBT is my preferred modality of therapy, and CBT is often identified as one of the most effective forms of therapy for dealing with mood and anxiety problems. CBTi or CBT for insomnia which is an effective way of improving ones sleep; is also a service which I offer. I had been a member of the Ontario Association of Counsellors, Consultant, Psychometrists and Psychotherapists (OACCPP) for several years.as well as a member of the Canadian Association of Cognitive and Behavioural Therapies (CACBT), and a member of the Canadian Association of Anger Solutions Professionals (Certified Trainer).
I am a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapist of Ontario (Registration No. 001878). Throughout my 17 years in the mental health field, I have worked with children, adults and couples in a therapeutic setting. I am happy to note that Quinte Assessment and Treatment Group is presently consulting with me to complete Psychological and Psycho-educational Assessments. I also collaborate with the Belleville Psychotherapy Clinic.

Sometimes life gets overwhelming and it becomes difficult to see the forest for the trees. Psychotherapy can help make things clearer and help individuals adjust their perspectives to make sense out of their experiences. Other times there is no "sense" to make, but through therapy we can learn coping strategies to get through difficult times.
My approach to therapy is client-centered and largely non-directive, with the focus on assisting clients, in a collaborative approach, to identify and work towards their goals. Services include, but are not limited to therapy for adults, children, and couples experiencing: depression, anxiety, trauma, and grief or relationship conflict. Short and long term therapy or counselling is available.
Fees: Therapy fees are $150.00 per hour, (this is generally broken down into 50 minutes of therapy and 10 minutes for documentation). Payment is generally due at the end of each session by either cheque, Credit Card or cash (correct amount recommended). Psycho-educational or Psychological assessment fees are $155.00 per hour, unless a flat rate is agreed upon prior to commencing.
Anger Solution Groups can be arranged when numbers warrant, and costs are based on the number of participants in the group (Generally $30/ per session- with Adult groups being 10 sessions, and Children’s groups being 6-7 sessions).
In some cases, where arranged in advanced, third parties may be billed (i.e. Employee Assistance Programs, Health Canada (Indian Affairs), Blue Cross, Insurance, etc.).
Depression, fear, and anxiety are some of the most common and uncomfortable emotions that we can experience at some point in our lives. Through psychotherapy, we are able to help you recover motivation, perspective, and joy that you once had in your life.
Many individuals can experience symptoms associated with painful and traumatic circumstances. Anxiety, fear, and hopelessness are a few emotions that can linger post traumatic events. We can help you overcome these symptoms and guide you through the process of grief and healing.
Relationship counselling can be beneficial to couples who are looking to strengthen their emotional connection, in all stages of their relationship. Therapy sessions are held with both parties and is a supportive place to discuss issues and solutions to better strengthen your relationship.
